GOD BLESS AMERICA?

 In recent years there have been a number of our country's leaders who have been involved in a wide variety of immoral and unethical scandals.  Following the facts and the rumors seems to have become a bizarre form of entertainment.

 Someone commented to me recently, "He hasn't done anything to hurt me.  I don't care what he does in his personal life."  I think a large number of Americans have a similar view.

 Here's my problem with that - Does God hold nations accountable for their level of morality?  In the Old Testament, God claimed credit for the rise and fall of nations. . . not just Israel - but all the nations.

 The great empire of the Babylonians was directed by God.  When its greatest king - Nebuchadnezzar - became arrogant, God sent him this message, "[I am going to punish you]. . . until you acknowledge that the Most High [God] is sovereign over the kingdoms of men and gives them to anyone he wishes." (Daniel 4:25).

 The story line in the prophet Jonah was that God sent the prophet to the wicked nation of Assyria.  They repented.  God spared that nation for many additional generations.  Amos prophesied to the Edomites that neither their military defenses, their wealth, their national alliances, nor their education could save them.  All the other prophets have similar messages.

 Has God died?  Does he no longer care?  When a nation recognizes and honors God, he blesses it.  When a nation turns away from God and becomes violent, immoral and wicked, God judges that nation.

 Remember the line that was supposedly spoken regarding the Titanic?  "Not even God could sink this ship!"  Let's not fool ourselves regarding our country.  God has incredibly blessed America.  Our founding fathers believed in God and were unashamed to speak of him and ask his blessings and acknowledge our dependence upon him.  Is there any place for God in America today? ... Other than the brunt of jokes?  Is there a place for God in politics?  In Hollywood?  In our schools?  In our homes?  In our corporations?  I guess he's welcome in our churches. . . if he doesn't meddle in our private lives!

 Immorality is destroying America!  When my leaders are immoral and unethical THEY ARE HURTING ME!  I love my country. . . and I love my God - and they are trying to take both of them away from my family and me.

 If we are only concerned about economics and not morality, we are a dying country.  It's only a matter of time. .

 I'm not a prophet.  I'm nobody special.  I just read my Bible and try to understand and teach what I've read.  My Bible says that God rewards righteousness and punishes sin.  That's not too hard to understand.

 There is a war going on.  And if you don't know that immorality and sin are the enemies of our nation and our homes. . . we don't have a chance!
